Hostile Christian Takeover

Truer words were never said.

It is true that those who believe they are acting in the name of a god rarely show any proclivity towards compromise, logic, or reason- looking back through history at the inquisition, crusades, or witch hunts should tell us this.

Unfortunately politicians these days play the religion card all too often- there was a special time in our nations history when religion had a limited role in politics (remember that the first four presidents were all antireligious deists who despised the church) however lately, the presidential race in particular has seemingly become a contest between who can be more fundamentalist friendly, who is willing to compromise what is right, in order to win the votes of the evangelical electorate which thinks the world is 6,000 years old and will end soon (so why bother protecting the environment?) And who distrust science and education so severely they largely spurn the idea of public education entirely.

Public officials should neither attest to their religion nor alter their views in accordance with them- the fact is: governing based on religion has been tried before and has always failed.
