Radio Werewolf - The Vinyl Solution (Review)

I figured that I would make a review of the new Radio Werewolf album here, as I just got my copy in the mail, and trust me, less than 5 minutes later it was playing in my computers' CD drive (It will be amusing as well to pop it into the car and blast the music, confusing others with all the windows down.)

This is a very good quality piece- for those who have listened to Radio Werewolf's work before we have a dual problem- most of the tracks were taken from vinyl (which ensures they have somewhat low quality to begin with) and most of them are being listened to through Youtube, which further degrades the quality.

This piece has been masterfully restored, and starts out with a prologue piece from the Zurich Experiment in 1991, then goes on to 6 tracks from "The Lightning and the Sun" and 4 tracks from "Bring me the Head of Geraldo Rivera" (The best album title ever.)

It finishes with the Schrecks' tribute tracks to the SIN-atras, which I imagine pissed off Sinatra fans when they found out who had covered the songs.

The 14th track is a "mystery bonus track:" I could tell you what it is but, suffice it to say it's a cover song, which a lot of folks would enjoy.

Of course, these works are from Radio Werewolf's more ambient/experimental period, particularly with "Sleepwalker" (My favorite song from the later Radio Werewolf works) you can hear the atmospheric sound, and you can feel the mystic intent behind such works. A dark rainy night is the perfect atmosphere to listen to most of their immortal, subversive work!

Definitely worth buying.

UVB-76 "The Buzzer" Story and Live Feed

Now-abandoned former transmitting site

or

Now it's time to gather around for a truly bizarre story.

There's a radio station at 4625 kHz for shortwave from Russia that has been broadcasting roughly the same monotonous buzzing signal since 1982: it's called "The Buzzer" and seems to be surrounded by bizarre theories as to its nature and, more recently, where it's coming from.

In addition to the 21 tone-per-minute background buzzing, morse code is often heard on this station- on rarer occasions there have been various voices, tests, and other noise heard from the station. (I was tuning in before writing this and heard some morse code myself being broadcast.) Sometimes the tone changes pitch slightly, slows down, or speeds up, seemingly without a purpose.

Theories of its purpose range from ionosphere observation, to military broadcast, to some sort of coded spy radio site, to a monitoring site for satellite feeds, to some sort of bizarre fusion of a transmitter and phone lines- however nobody seems to know for sure. Some phone conversations have been recorded as well from this broadcast- but the buzzing goes on 24 hours a day.

For those who wish to read more about this site you can read the Wikipedia article here and there is one very good blog with several live stream links here.

Street Light Interference Phenomenon

I stumbled upon this interesting article today and thought it might be of interest to some folks here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_light_interference_phenomenon

From Wikipedia:

Street light interference, or SLI, is an alleged anomalous phenomenon where a person seems to turn off (or sometimes on) street lights, or outside building security lights, when passing near them.
Although street lights can turn off by chance, such as high pressure sodium street lights cycling (turning on and off repeatedly) at the end of their life cycle, believers in street light interference tend to claim that it happens to them personally on a regular basis, more frequently than chance would explain. Some propose paranormal explanations for SLI, sometimes based on scientific terminology, such as the explanation that electrical impulses in their brain interfere with the workings of electric lights. Anecdotes about people's experiences of SLI have been reported by news sources.[1]
SLI has never been demonstrated to occur in a scientific experiment, and those who claim to cause it have been found to be unable to reproduce the effect on demand; they give the explanation that the effect is not within their mental and physical control.[2] Many times they do report, however, that it occurs with specific lamps and not just randomly shutting off street lights or electrical lamps in general.[3][4]

I found this interesting mainly because I myself have experienced this in a fairly regular (nearly daily) basis for years- oddly it seems to be increasing over time as well. While it is entirely possible this is an example of merely noticing something others don't notice- I find it rather strange that it happens to me so frequently- sometimes 4 or 5 times in the course of a night.

Zeena Schreck Facebook Page

Please note: A link to the official Zeena Facebook page will be added to the sidebar later tonight.

The ever awesome Zeena

The folks over at Zeena.eu, who help Zeena, who is artist, photographer, animal rights advocate, writer, spiritual guide, and leader of the Setian Liberation Movement, have set up an official Facebook page for her- much like the folks helping Nikolas Schreck constructed an official page for his content some time ago.

This will, in the time to come, be an important venue for keeping up to date with her many projects, although please keep in mind, she does not, herself, manage the page itself! (Don't message the page to try and contact her- the Schrecks prefer snail mail!)

Very exciting news for us all!
